Pantai is the bolder Thai tea mix. Made by Pantainorasingh, a Thai food producer better known outside Thailand for sauces and curry pastes, its Thai tea is a loose mix of black tea, tamarind and spice that brews a rounder, punchier cup than the restaurant standard — strong without turning bitter. It is the mix that tends to win blind tastings, and it is sold in one format: a 16 oz bag.
This page is a directory entry: what the brand is and what is in it. It does not rank Pantai against anything — that is the best mixes guide. The head-to-head is linked below.
What is in the bag
Black tea, tamarind, spice, flavouring and colour. The tamarind is the tell: it gives the cup a slight fruit-sour edge under the sweetness that Cha Tra Mue does not have, and it is why people describe Pantai as "rounder" or "bolder" rather than "more classic." Some find it a touch sweeter. It contains artificial colour, like Cha Tra Mue — if you are here to avoid the dye, neither is your answer, and the brands that are live on the dye-free list.
The name on the bag
Depending on the importer the same product is labelled Pantai, Pantainorasingh, or "Hand Brand". Same producer, same tea. There is one loose-mix line; Pantai does not sell a gold tier, an instant powder or tea bags under this name, which makes it the simplest brand on this site to buy correctly.
Brewing it
Same ratio as any loose Thai tea mix — about 10 g to 350 ml of water, five minutes, strain, then condensed milk and ice — but Pantai forgives a slightly shorter steep because the blend is stronger to begin with. If your first glass tastes sharp, the tamarind is doing that; more milk rounds it off. Method: the classic recipe.
What people actually say about it
Pantai comes up 3 times across 1 of the 39 public discussions we read — 2 clear endorsements, 1 qualified, 0 against. That is a thin sample and should be read as one: enough to show the brand is known, not enough to rank it against anything. Counted the same way for every brand, method and rules on the full dataset.
